Terence John Cobner
Terence John Cobner was born in Blaenavon on 10 January 1946 and educated at West Mon Grammar School and Madeley College where he qualified as a teacher. Whilst teaching in Staffordahire he played for the West Midlands against South Africa at Coventry in 1970 but his club rugby was almost exclusively with Pontypool who he captained for ten seasons from 1969. He played for Gwent against New Zealand in 1972 and Australia in 1976 and for East Wales against Australia in 1973 and as captain against Tonga in 1974. He played at flanker for Wales in 19 internationals between 1974 and 1978 and was captain in his penultimate match against Australia in Brisbane in 1978. On the 1977 British Isles' tour of New Zealand he played in 11 matches, including three tests, scored three tries, and was Lions' captain in three provincial matches. Terry Cobner later became a coaching organiser for the Welsh Rugby Union.
