The Barbarians Men’s and Women’s teams will run out at the Principality Stadium on Saturday 30 November in a first-ever double header against Wales.
The match day will mark the final international appearances of Barbarians favourite Schalk Brits and Ireland legend Rory Best, who will captain the invitational side.
The Women’s team are led by Black Fern Steph Te Ohaere-Fox, who won the Rugby World Cup with the New Zealand team in 2010.
The Women’s squad features ten nations coming together to mark two years since the women’s side was officially launched.
Players from New Zealand, Australia, the USA, Japan, Ireland, Wales, Scotland, England, Italy and Canada have come together for a week’s build0-up and preparation under the leadership of former England scrum-half and Worcester Warriors Women Head Coach Jo Yapp, who is being assisted by former Wales and Barbarians captain Rachel Taylor.
On the men’s side, Best is joined by players from Canada, Italy, South Africa, Australia, Fiji, New Zealand, France and Scotland for the final match of three in the men’s November tour. Wales will round off a trio of matches that has seen the Barbarians already face Fiji and Brazil.
Another man will be waving goodbye – to the Principality Stadium at least. Men’s Head Coach Warren Gatland will oversee his final match at the Wales home ground after he finished his 12-year tenure as Wales Head Coach following the Rugby World Cup. He is assisted by Robbie Deans and Robin McBride, who is also leaving his post in Wales to head to Leinster.
In another historic move, the match will be refereed by Welsh legend Nigel Owens – the first time Wales have been refereed by the fan favourite.
