Richard Hugh McCaw
Richard Hugh McCaw was born in Oamaru on 31 December 1980 and educated at Otago Boys High School. He played for Christchurch Rugby Club and went on to captain Canterbury when they won the NPC title in 2004 and the Crusaders as Super Rugby champions in 2005 and 2006. Considered the finest open-side flanker of his generation, Richie McCaw first played for New Zealand in 2001 and by the summer of 2011 had captained the All Blacks in 60 of his 97 tests. He had also scored 19 test tries. In 2008 he played for the Barbarians against Australia at Wembley Stadium and the following year captained New Zealand against the Barbarians at Twickenham.
