Report

The Barbarians came out on top in a thrilling clash at Twickenham in the Killik Cup as they beat the Flying Fijians 45-32.

The experienced Barbarians’ outfit of over 968 Test caps between the matchday 23 put on an impressive display, scoring seven tries in total, with England winger Jonny May impressing with two himself.

The opener came a quarter of an hour in, off a beautifully intricate set move from the scrum. Fergus Burke pulled the strings nicely, and Chay Fihaki brought the Barbarians close, and eventually, Lachlan Boshier crashed over.

The Fijians responded with typical flair, pouncing on a loose ball and made the break, a flung offload back inside to Epeli Momo allowed the winger to dive under the posts on debit for Fiji.

May’s first was an easy dot down in the corner following some nice quick hands out to him on the wing.

May had another on the other side of halftime as Fiji were caught off-guard by Fihaki’s quick thinking and waltzed down the middle to release May, who finished in style with a forward role.

Fiji kept the entertaining rugby going as Meli Derenalagi plucked a ball out of the air and raced down the wing, giving the final pass to Momo on the support line for another.

They kept the flying form going as they caught the Barbarians short of numbers down the blindside, and an inside pass allowed Kemu Valetini to finish untouched.

Another sublime break from Fihaki opened up the Fijian defence, and Boshier had his second following an outrageous dummy to send the covering defender the wrong way.

The Babarians finished the game in style with one more score before the final whistle with Zack Mercer diving under the sticks following a nice break and offload from Fergus Burke.
