A member of the University College, Dublin, Lansdowne and London Irish clubs he won 25 caps at centre for Ireland between 1966 and 1971, scoring 5 tries, and toured twice with the British Isles in 1966 and 1968, scoring 7 tries in 25 games in New Zealand, Canada and South Africa. He made his Barbarians' debut on the Easter Tour of 1966 and the following year played in the high profile fixture against Australia at Cardiff Arms Park.
