Herbert Godwin

Herbert Godwin was born in Blaenavon, Gwent, on 21 December 1935 and educated at Broadway Secondary Modern School. He played at hooker for Coventry where he worked in the city as a machine fitter, and also for the Army, Combined Services and Warwickshire. He played for the Midlands against Australia and New Zealand in 1967. Bert Godwin gained 11 caps for England between 1959 and 1967. In 1962 he joined the British Isles' tour of South Africa as a replacement and played in nine games. He captained the Barbarians in the Mobbs Memorial Match in 1965. He died in January 2006, aged 70.
