Ivor Preece

Ivor Preece was born in Coventry on 15 December 1920. He played at fly-half for the Coventry club and the Warwickshire county side. He also represented Midland Counties against Australia in 1947 and as captain against South Africa in 1952. His 12 games for England between 1948 and 1951 included six as captain. In 1950 he toured New Zealand and Australia with the British Isles and played in 11 games, including one test against the All Blacks. As well as eight appearances on tour at fly-half, he played once at full-back, twice in the centre and captained the side against Southland. Ivor Preece was a gas salesman and the father of P S Preece [q.v.]. He died on 14 March 1987, aged 66.
